How to Make Money While Learning Data Science (No Experience Needed)
Here are 5 Proven Ways That Helped Me Earn More Than I Thought I Could.
Do you want to get into the lucrative field of data analytics?
You may have lost your job recently because of the pandemic or need extra money for your additional expenses.
Not to worry!
In this post, I will show you five practical ways by which you can make real money using data analytics — with no previous experience at all.
It was only 2 years back that I was in a similar position.
My persistence and techniques outlined below enabled me to get a full-time job and build a stream of passive income.
Let’s get started with how you can do it.

1. Affiliate Marketing: A Simple Starting Point
Affiliate marketing is one of the simplest, and the first ways to make money from data analysis.
This works as follows:
Let’s say you have taken an online course like the Google Data Analytics Certificate on Coursera.
If you liked the course and feel that it added value, then you can share your special referral link with others.
Every time someone clicks through your link to sign up for that course, you will earn a fraction of that course cost.
That, combined with the extra two to three hundred bucks I used to pull in every month by sharing links to courses that I had taken, makes your first income stream so invaluable.
It has such a low barrier to entry: you do not need to be a data analytics expert from the get-go.
With time, it allows one to build trust and visibility online, which attracts people to click your affiliate links. Your next income stream will suffice.
2. Become a Thought Leader from Writing
With every data analytics article and tutorial you create, you are building an audience and establishing yourself as an authority figure.
Then, the more of these people who find you and are helped by your content, the more likely they are to convert and buy the products and courses you are promoting with affiliate marketing.
Every major opportunity I’ve gotten can be traced back to some of my data science articles, which came out on Medium. Clients and even brand partnerships have all come from my online writing.
There’s a buzzword: ‘practice in public’.
Share your learning journey, projects, and insights.
It’s all good if you’re a total beginner. You just have to be consistent so that you can keep trying to give real value to your readers.
3. Offer Analytics Services to Your Network
One does not have to have a massive online presence to start making money; in fact, one of the most convenient ways is through networking and offering analytics services to your colleagues, friends, or anyone else within your network whom you know.
For instance, let’s say you have a friend who is a small business owner with all their data stored in discrete Excel files.
You can then approach them and say,
“I could help you to combine all of the data, build out a custom dashboard, and uncover some extremely valuable insights about your best customers and best-selling products. I will do all of this for just $100.”
While the pay won’t be astral for beginners, this is a great way of getting real experience, a portfolio, and testimonials to be able to land more highly compensated gigs in the future.
4. Product Reviews and Affiliate Marketing
By combining affiliate marketing with your data analytics, you can earn while writing honest reviews of web courses, tools, and products.
For instance, if you took a course on AWS, you could then write an in-depth review discussing what you learned, what you liked, and what you didn’t like.
Include an affiliate link to the said course, then you’ll start earning a commission the moment one purchases from your link.
Not only does this generate passive money, but it also helps you establish yourself as an authority in the space.
P.S.: Course creators or companies even reach out for brand partnerships.
5. Work as a Freelance Data Analytics Tutor
The last way to make money using data analytics is through teaching and sharing your craft.
The easiest way you can do that would be creating your online course, but other ways are also through part-time instructor jobs.
As long as you have a good grounding in SQL, Python, Excel, and Tableau, you can get on with teaching the curriculum to students and making money.
This is a great way to get paid while learning, and gaining that experience as an instructor will only strengthen your skills.
